As part of the preparation for the big race in Le Mans in 1970, in Porsche´s temporary headquarters in France, the Elford/Ahrens longtail 917 gets its nose painted red for ease identification. The car would retire from the event in the eighteenth hour while in second place and record the fastest lap of the race with an average of 241,235 kph.
